Emergency Response to Hazardous Materials

ER01 - First Responder Awareness and Operations

This class is based on training standards for First Responder Awareness & Operations Levels. Class topics include introduction to hazardous materials, recognizing the presence of hazardous substances in an emergency, basic and role of the first responder at the awareness level, which consists of recognize, evacuate and notify the proper authorities of the incident.

ER02 - Hazardous Waste Operations & Hazardous Materials Technician

This 24 or 40 hour class is based on the training standards for hazardous materials technician level defined by 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(iii) as "... individuals who respond to releases or potential releases for the purpose of stopping the release. They assume a more aggressive role than a first responder at the operations level in that they will approach the point of release in order to plug, patch or otherwise stop the release of a hazardous substance." The course covers basic defensive and offensive mitigation techniques available to responders and is primarily hands-on in nature. After appropriate classroom and field training, the participants will apply their skills in field exercises using our training ground. The students will be evaluated based on both written test scores and practical skills. Class presentation will include recognition, identification & notification of hazmat releases, use of survey instruments, functions of incident command system, evaluation of risk, management programs which includes risk assessment based on: toxicology, chemical/physical hazards, protective equipment, mitigation techniques, decontamination procedures, safety and health plans Target Audience: HazMat team members from industry, transportation companies, fire departments, law-enforcement agencies, EMS, environmental and land management agencies.

ER03 - Hazardous Materials Technician Annual Refresher

This 8 hour class is designed to satisfy 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(8) annual refresher training requirement for personnel trained for emergency response to hazardous materials incidents. This class reviews the basic requirements and current regulations and techniques associated with emergency response to hazardous materials incidents. Through the use of "real world" scenarios and hands-on exercises.

ER04 - Highway Specialist

This 24-hour specialist class is designed in compliance with 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(iv) for those response personnel who may be involved in emergency response releases or the potential releases of hazardous materials in highway transportation that require an understanding of equipment and techniques. This program includes presentations on highway tanker types and specialized shipping containers used in highway transportation. Identification, design, construction & operating features, mitigation techniques, product transfer operations and container handling. Target Audience: HazMat Response Team members, firefighters, response contractors and individuals who respond to highway HazMat incidents.

ER05 - Railroad Specialist

This 24 hour specialist class is designed, in compliance with 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(iv), for those response personnel (HazMat technician) who may be involved in emergency responses to, and mitigation efforts for, releases of or the potential releases of hazardous materials in rail transportation that require a technical understanding of equipment, mitigation techniques. This specialist program will include presentations on rail tank car types and shipping containers related to rail transportation. Identification, design, construction and operating features of tank cars, mitigation techniques, product transfer operations. Target Audience: HazMat Response Team members, firefighters, response contractors and individuals who respond to highway HazMat incidents.

ER06 - Petroleum Technician

This course is part of our Hazardous Materials Specialist series intended to address the specific chemical, physical, physiological effects of exposure to petroleum products. First aid, sources and levels of exposure, audible and visual signals, air monitoring, levels of personal protective equipment, respiratory fit testing, contingency planning and shipping requirements will be covered. Special emphasis will be on highway cargo tank response and recovery techniques. Target Audience: Personnel who have this material present in their work environment, first responders, petroleum transporters, petroleum workers and others that need a basic understanding of the material.

ER07 - Incident Commander & Site Safety Officer

ER08 - Contingency Planning

This specialist course is designed to assist the participant in developing hazardous materials contingency plans or revise and update existing contingency plans. This includes developing the hazards analysis, capability assessment, information management, the planning document, coordination with other organizations and agency plans, risk communication, legislation, and exercising as a plan-updating tool. Special emphasis will direct student to the “one plan” concept. Target Audience: Local Emergency Planning Committees, State Agencies, Federal Agencies, Industrial Organizations, and others identified as needing the training.

ER10 - Transportation Specialist

Hazardous Materials Transportation

HMT01 - Hazardous Materials Transportation General Awareness

This basic class is designed to provide the employee with general awareness and familiarization of the basic transportation of hazardous materials requirements in 49 CFR 100-180. It will also enable the employee to recognize and identify hazardous materials consistent with the hazard communication standard. Target Audience: Individuals should attend this course if they have responsibilities for hazardous materials in transportation such as truck drivers, warehouseman, dock workers, operation and emergency response personnel. These personnel may not require the advanced 24-hour class but do require training, testing and certification.

HMT02 - Hazardous Materials Transportation Basic

This 24-hour class instructs participants in the hazardous materials transportation regulations and how they apply. This includes information on hazardous materials, substances and waste in transportation. Specifically, we will discuss the identification, classification, packaging, labeling, marking, shipping papers, emergency response information, placarding, and transportation requirements. Target Audience: Individuals involved in the transportation of hazardous materials, transportation management, dispatching, training, safety and/or emergency response.

HMT03 - Hazardous Materials Transportation Recurring

This is an 8-hour advanced class designed for those students with a working knowledge (practical experience) of 49 CFR 100-180. This class focuses on the regulatory updates and the effects they have on shippers and carriers. This class meets recurring training requirements under 49 CFR Part 172 Subpart H 172.700. Target Audience: Individuals should attend if they meet the definition of HazMat Employees in Transportation and must be certified on a triennial recurring basis.

HMT04 - Hazardous Materials Transportation by Air Basic

This 24-hour class is designed to satisfy the minimum regulatory requirement of both ICAO and IATA hazardous materials requirements and standards for air shipments. This class will focus on “how to use” the ICAO Technical Instructions, with comparison to the IATA Standards, the relationship of ICAO and IATA to 49 CFR Parts 100-180. Students should have an in- depth knowledge of 49 CFR, Parts 100-180 to attend. Target Audience: Air shippers, carriers, regulatory personnel and military services.

HMT09 - Federal Motor Carriers Safety Regulations

This workshop is designed for motor carriers who must comply with the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Regulations, 49 CFR Parts 350-399. Students will receive a complete review, interpretations and how to comply with the regulations. Students will receive instructions on how to prepare for and undergo an audit from U.S.DOT. Checklist will be provided. Hazardous Waste Operations

HW01 - Hazardous Waste Operations Occasional Site Worker

This 24- hour course is designed to meet the specific requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(3)(ii). Participants will be shown safe work practices, how to protect themselves from work place safety and health hazards at designated hazardous waste sites. Class topics include hazard recognition and evaluation, chemical and physical hazards, toxicology PPE, air monitoring, medical monitoring and decontamination. This course does not satisfy the 1-day On-the-Job-Training requirements you need to satisfy for the federal and state hazardous waste operations regulations, this is your employer’s responsibility. Target Audience: This class is for all those personnel who occasionally perform tasks on a hazardous waste site.

HW03 - Hazardous Waste Operations Supervisor

Training is designed to meet the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(4) as it applies to supervisors in charge of occasional and general waste site workers at any hazardous waste site. This 8-hour supervisor training is in addition to the 40 hour Hazardous Waste Operations (General Site Worker) course. It will familiarize supervisors with federal and state hazardous waste site management requirements. Emphasis is placed on presentation and implementation of the employer's safety and health program. Includes hazard monitoring, PPE programs, record keeping and documentation of all site operations. Presentation includes lectures, videos, and hands-on projects. Target Audience: Anyone in charge of personnel at a hazardous waste site, such as contractors, consultants, well drillers and regulatory agencies.

HW04 - Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response Annual Refresher

This class is designed to satisfy 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(8) requires yearly refresher training for hazardous waste occasional and general site workers, and their management and supervisors. This training requirement is necessary to maintain certification. Topics include review of federal and state regulations, hazards, engineering controls, medical surveillance and regulatory updates. Target Audience: All personnel required to take hazardous waste operations training under 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(1-4) need to take annual refresher training to stay current with federal and state regulations.

I-402 - Incident Command System - Module 17

This module provides a basic orientation on ICS, unified and area commands, and multi-agency coordination. This module also discusses responsibilities and information transfer between agency executives and incident commanders. An Executive Briefing Paper is included in the instructional materials. NSTC01 - Unescorted Module

Any company or contract employee who works within the various fields must complete a minimum training program consisting of: General Camps & Safety Orientation, Alaska Safety Handbook, Environmental Excellence, HAZWOPER Level 1, Responder Awareness, Personal Protective Equipment, Hazard Communication (HAZCOM), Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S). Personnel will be issued NSTC cards with completed modules indicated. These courses have defined the minimum initial knowledge needed for individuals to assess and manage the risks associated with their work tasks. This class is being offered in partnership with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Tanana Valley Campus. **Additional classes may be available upon request. Target Audience: Any company or contract employee who works within the various fields.

S05 - Petroleum Workers Safety and Health

This 8 hour course was designed to prepare the students with an overview of OSHA regulations that must be followed in the workplace. Course materials will cover prevention of accidents that may expose employees to serious hazards such as fire, explosion or spills. Training includes, principles of safety, PSM, PPE, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, decontamination, medical surveillance, hazard communications, hydrogen sulfide, benzene in fuels, heat and cold stress, bloodborne pathogens, lock out - tag out, welding, hot work, permit required confined spaces, fall protection, fire prevention, electrical safety, grounding and bonding, excavation and trenching. S09 - Forklift Operator Performance Training

This 4 hour class is directed to safe and efficient operation of flexible path material handling equipment. Objectives of this class are: basic understanding of the current regulations that govern Lift Truck Operations. Lift truck components, safe operation of a lift truck, pre-shift inspection form, fuel types, how to safely handle lift trucks. Written performance test is administered in the classroom and driver performance test will be performed at your facility with your equipment.

S11 - First Aid

We offer a 4-hour adult First Aid Course. This course is designed to teach employees basic first aid, focuses on victim assessment, shock, bleeding, wounds and other basic mechanisms of injury. We discuss the Good Samaritan Law, Standards of Care and the Right to Refuse Care. Each year approximately 100,000 disabling injuries and deaths result in the workplace. Target Audience: OSHA recommends, foreman, supervisors and step-ups are available to render basic life support.

S12 - CPR

We offer a 4-hour initial adult CPR course. This course is designed to teach employees basic CPR when confronted by no heartbeat. We also teach abdominal thrusts for obstructed airways, such as choking on food. We discuss the Good Samaritan Law, Standards of Care and Right to Refuse Care. The class focuses on victim assessment, basic life support and shock. Approximately 500,000 people die from heart attacks, a percentage could be saved with CPR.
