James K. Maltby, Director of Health, Safety & Environmental

Jim has been with the Alaska West Express Inc. since July 1991, his background includes 9 years with the United States Air Force as a Firefighter and Fire Inspector. In addition to his years as a firefighter, his background includes 12 years experience instructing hazardous materials emergency response, highway and railroad emergency response specialist, hazardous materials transportation utilizing 49 CFR, ICAO/IATA (air) and IMDG (water). He is Chief for the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) Hazardous Materials Response Team, Vice Chairman of the FNSB Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) and member of the American Society of Safety Engineers. Jim was a recipient of the 2007 American Society of Safety Engineers Midnightsun Chapter Safety Professional of the Year Award.

Al Guettinger, Safety Specialist / Instructor

Al has been with Alaska West Express Inc. since September 1990 and Alaska West Training Center since August 2002. He has over 15 years commercial driving experience transporting hazardous materials as well as 9 years in operations, including emergency response and rescue in highway cargo tank and rail tank car incidents. He is an instructor for First Aid / CPR, powered industrial trucks and hazardous materials transportation utilizing 49 CFR. Al is currently a member of the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) Hazardous Materials Response Team as well as the American Society of Safety Engineers.
